Powermatic was founded in 1921 by Leonard F. Smith Sr. in McMinnville, Tennessee.
Planers were the first products that Powermatic produced.
During the 1940s, Powermatic expanded its product line to include a wider variety of woodworking machinery, establishing a strong reputation for quality.
1958
In 1958, Powermatic introduced the Model 66 table saw, which became one of their most iconic and enduring products.
1978
In 1978, Powermatic moved its operations to LaVergne, Tennessee, to accommodate its growing business.
2008
Powermatic became the “P” in JPW in 2008.

2023 Powermatic released ArmorGlide™ high-performance coating designed to enhance durability and reduce friction up to 50% on table saws, bandsaws, and jointers.
